This course has 3 distinct sections; |
| 1. Practical Awareness in Public |
|
Understand & manage confrontational behaviour by identifying the causes of violence and recognise the warning & danger signs. |
|
Recognise and understand body language. |
|
Identify the communication & behaviour skills which defuse aggression. |
|
Identify an individual’s ‘personal space’. |
|
Recognise triggers to violent & aggressive situations. |
|
Practice methods of defusing, de-escalating and avoiding incidents. |
|
Learn how to assess and use your environment to give the quickest possible escape route and minimise confrontation. |

To increase personal awareness when alone - at work, in town etc. |

| 2. Practical Awareness at Home – including home, vehicle, drugs and domestic violence |
|
Increase personal safety when in your home. |
|
Increase personal safety when in your vehicle. |
|
Increase awareness of drugs including the so called ‘date rape drug’ and drugs which a dependant may bring into your home. |

Understand the Laws in relation to domestic violence. |

| 3. Practical Application of Self Defence – Bash & Dash |
|
Understand what is meant by “Self Defence” and “Reasonable Force”. |
|
Understand the legal implications of self defence and reasonable force. |
|
Identify target areas in an attacker’s body. |
|
Practice the ‘Bash & Dash’ principle – one kick and one push to enable you to get away from your attacker. |
|
Practical scenarios – attacks from the front, attacks from the back, attacks from the side, strangle holds / grabs and attacks on the ground (face up and face down). |
